Retail Sales Manager – Speciality Reporting to : Head of Speciality Division

THE BACKGROUND

The company has recently won the right to sell licensed products for a high profile event. In addition to retailing these products through its existing retail partners the company wants to maximise the wholesale potential with new retail and corporate customers. This is seen as the first step in creating a major wholesale division within the company.

THE POSITION

The key objectives of the role will be to:
• Develop relationships with major UK retailers allowing the company to sell its speciality range beyond its existing customer base.
• Build on these relationships to create new long term revenue streams in other product areas.
• Deliver retail sales and profit expectations in line with the company’s strategic plan.
• Work with retail customers to provide feedback on the performance of different product lines in order to influence future product planning.
• Work closely with Product Manager and Account Manager to deliver the overall sales and profit expectation.

THE CANDIDATE

Qualified candidates for this position will need to demonstrate the following competencies:

• Proven Sales Leadership evidenced by a solid track record of delivering sales results through different stages of growth.
• UK retail experience: ideally the candidate will have significant experience selling to major UK retailers and have existing relationships with a number of buyers.
• Results Orientation: delivering substantial results that impact both top and bottom line; tracking progress against performance milestones;
• Collaboration and Influencing indicated by a naturally collaborative approach to delivering shared goals, taking the time to understand the issues and concerns of others in the process; a willingness to challenge in a constructive way; flexing style to engage others on their own terms.
• Entrepreneurial approach: the Speciality Division is a fast-growth business which will attract candidates who thrive in and entrepreneurial environment: developing new sales opportunities; have an ability to stand back from the detail and see the longer-term, bigger picture; enjoy learning from both successes and problems and have a strong problem solving capability.

Personal Characteristics

The successful candidate is likely to bring passion and flair without any ego or need for personal status. Action orientated s/he will have a natural sales building attitude and be able to juggle lots of balls and makes things happen without the need for huge support infrastructures. Commercially sound and pragmatic in approach, s/he will be able to distil complexity into simple plans and have the confidence and emotional intelligence to influence and inspire at all levels across the business and breakdown functional barriers.
